World music from a world-class musician at Chisholme House on Monday, 24 July.
Following music from Africa last month we now welcome Arieb Azhar from Pakistan. This won’t be his first appearance in Scotland having played at Celtic Connections a few years ago. He won acclaim there and has attracted a following wherever he has played in America, Europe and India. We are extremely lucky to be able to welcome him to Chisholme.
Defying easy categorization, Arieb’s mesmerizing baritone is a voice that effortlessly weaves diverse musical traditions into one complete emotional, intellectual and spiritual experience. His is an eclectic mix of his own compositions based on Qawwali and folk music in multiple languages. Arieb pays tribute to Sufi poet-saints of Punjab and the Subcontinent, Irish balladeers, Croatian troubadours and Roma gypsies.
The concert takes place in the grounds of Chisholme House.
In the early afternoon before the concert, Arieb will give a talk:
"Sufi poetry of Pakistan and its Relevance in Today's World”
The talk is free and starts at 2.30pm.
Pre-concert supper is at 6.30 - please book; suggested donations £7 - £10
The concert follows at 7.30pm
Tickets £12
