Yurt Retreats

Time to simply be
Walk in the woods, cook outdoors, watch the moonrise and the sunrise, breathe in the scent of the pine forest, stride across the moors or just lie and watch the clouds.

Do nothing – do everything
An opportunity to go off-line, leaving the never-ending stream of email, television, advertising, work, demands...

Yurt retreats on the Chisholme estate are available throughout the summer to individuals, couples or small families/groups. The setting is a wooded paradise set in the heart of open moorland. It has all the essentials for human existence, and few of the extras. Earth, sky, clean air, pure water, dark nights, shelter, warmth and plenty of weather!

The yurts are of traditional Turkmen design and were built by staff and volunteers, instructed by the legendary Hal Wynne Jones who first brought yurt-making to the UK. Each yurt can accommodate up to four people. They are simply but attractively furnished, and each equipped with a wood-burning stove. They are built on platforms on a gently rising woodland slope.

Washing facilities are close at hand, with composting toilets and hot water showers. There is no mobile reception in the yurt village, but a weak signal can be found within a few hundred metres.

Self-catering and dining takes place in the shared woodland kitchen. There is a clay oven for bread and pizza making, and various wood and gas-fired stoves and barbeque grills. Cold storage can be arranged in the Main House.
