Directions by car
Chisholme is about six miles off the A7 which links Carlisle to Edinburgh, near the town of Hawick (OS map ref: Sheet 79, 418121).
Coming from the South on the A7:
About a mile before you reach the town of Hawick, turn left onto the B711 to Roberton.
Coming from the North on the A7, or from the East:
Drive through the town of Hawick, following the signs for Carlisle. About a mile out of town take the first right onto the B711 to Roberton.
As you turn onto the B711, you cross a bridge and then follow the road into the hills until you come to Roberton Village. Go through the village and then take the very first left turn down the hill - it is signposted Chisholme Institute and also Craik. This is a single-track road with passing places. Follow it down and along the valley until you come to a left fork in the road. Turn left here (also signposted; do NOT drive straight on towards Craik Forest). The road takes you over a bridge and up the hill, past a few cottages and then onto open moorland with a small wooded area on your left. The turn-off to Chisholme is a sharp left turn, towards the end of this wooded area. There is a blue name board by the gate into the estate.
By air
The nearest Airports are Edinburgh and Newcastle; Glasgow is also possible, although further away. If using public transport it is best to use Edinburgh airport. From there take the Airlink shuttle bus or tram (frequent service) to the City Centre, to the main bus or railway station (Waverley); then see instructions below for the X95 bus from Edinburgh to Hawick, or the Borders Railway as far as Galashiels. Pick-up from all three Airports can be arranged on request.
By train and bus
The X95 bus service serves Hawick from Edinburgh and Carlisle.
See Border Buses timetable.
From Edinburgh the X95 starts from Edinburgh Bus Station, St. Andrews Square, near Waverley railway station. You can also board the bus at North Bridge. In Hawick get off at Morrisons Supermarket, Mart St. A taxi from Hawick is about £14 or phone us to see if we can collect you.
There is a train from Edinburgh, Waverley, to Galashiels and Tweedbank, which takes under an hour. See Borders Railway timetable.
From Galashiels you can then take the X95 bus on to Hawick.
From Carlisle the X95 bus stop is across the road from the Railway Station. Stay on the bus until the main stop in Hawick which is called Mart Street (it is opposite Morrisons Supermarket). There are taxis there, or call to be picked up.
To get to Edinburgh or Carlise by train, see the Trainline or Virgin Trains sites. Fares are cheaper if booked in advance. To book trains by phone, contact The TrainLine on 08457 222333.
